Millie Soros

She shone like the sun, and everyone that met her basked in her warmth and blossomed in her care.

When she left Barbados over 60 years ago, she was barely out of her teens. She came to the UK to nurse and she did this for over 45 years, rising to senior ranks.

She nursed as she lived, with style, strength, kindness and fun. As a consequence, everyone in Warwick and Leamington seemed to know Millie. Once you met her, you couldn’t forget her and her smile… oh that smile. It lit up a room.

Outside of nursing her passion was travel and she visited countries in all continents. Each trip brought new adventures - white water rafting in Brazil, riding elephants in Vietnam, learning to swim (last year) in Portugal. Each trip she came back full of stories, a camera full of pictures and new friends.

When she was diagnosed in December 2019, we were all devastated, but she carried on doing what she has always done – caring, nurturing and supporting us all. As a nurse she knew what to expect and she determined to fill her days with family, friends and laughter. Then COVID came and despite the restrictions the summer was filled with socially distanced patio parties, zoom calls and WhatsApp videos. We all couldn’t get enough of her and she couldn’t get enough of us.

She asked us to ‘thank-you for your friendship’ and when you think of her to ‘remember her smile’. She would be so pleased that you have chosen to donate to PCUK in her name as she found their support and advice comforting and she was very interested in their programme of research. She would be pleased that through your donation in her memory she continues to support and nurture others into the future.
