Our Mum Liz was a lifelong equestrian and a legend in the sport of international endurance riding. She passed down her love of horses to us.

Liz Finney died on Mother's Day, March 19, 2023, at age 77, after a short but painful battle with pancreatic cancer. Despite what she was going through, she never gave up hope and was resilient to the very end. Her strength and determination that she had shown in life as World Champion endurance horse rider and Chef D'Equipe of the British Endurance team showed when she was faced with this brutal disease. Her first thought was always for others, and she apologized for being an inconvenience when first diagnosed. Even when the pain was at its worst, she always had time to talk to her family - especially if it was about horses!

Liz worked as a pharmacist until three years before her death; she dedicated her professional life to helping others when they were sick. We are grateful to all the medical professionals who did the same for her when she needed them.

Liz leaves behind her husband of 54 years, Peter, and their two daughters, Caroline and Debbie, who both inherited their mum's love of horses and riding.

While she was in pain for months before her diagnosis, we never dreamed it would be something as terrible as this. At the time she thought she'd pulled a muscle in her stomach, and back pain from a previous accident. Ultimately pancreatic cancer took Liz quickly with little warning — and little time for her family to say goodbye. We want to help other families recognize early symptoms and give them a chance to fight back.
