Our beautiful Mum, Granny (Gunny), Irene

On the 13th March 2021 we lost our beautiful Mum and Granny, Irene (Gunny) to pancreatic cancer. She was finally diagnosed on the 22nd of January 2021 after living with undiagnosed pain for several years. Irene chose to live the final weeks of her life at home with her husband Len, and dog Kate. Irene was cared for by the local district nurses and Yvonne, her daughter, who did everything possible to ensure Irene’s end of life was as comfortable and pain free as possible. Irene died at home in the presence of Len, Yvonne and her son Leonard.

Pancreatic Cancer UK provided much needed assistance and Tracy, the Pancreatic Cancer Nurse Specialist gave the emotional, practical, and clinical advice Yvonne needed while caring for her mum.

As well as providing support to families living with this disease, ‘Pan Can’ are working on early diagnosis research for a future where pancreatic cancer is survivable.
