Alec Fawcett

He was independent, selfless, a gentleman, very much a family man and a teller of tales. He will leave a big hole in many hearts.
Dad (Alec) left us unexpectedly following a diagnosis of this life limiting illness.
He had been admitted to the RUH just 6 days previously, and to lose him so quickly really wasn’t written into the script but Mum (Sonia), his beloved wife whom he lost on the April 14th 2009 had other ideas, she called his name at 05:26 on September 29th and it was time for him to go to her there was no hesitation.
They met not long after leaving school, Sonia was training to become a nurse, and Alec was working at Sparrows.
They met whilst roller skating, and it was nothing for Alec to cycle from Weston to Grosvenor Place to meet her.
They were married on September 2nd 1961 at All Saints Church in Weston Village.
Dad took his fatherhood duties very seriously, he was a very principled man, in fact a gentleman who always looked smart in his shirt and tie, he was always keen to share his knowledge especially if there was a quiz night, even better if it was local.
Dad took early retirement to enable him to become full time carer for Mum who needed more support.
Sadly, Mum passed away very suddenly in April 2009, she called Dad’s name then she was gone.
The family recognised this was going to be life changing for him, they had been such soul mates for over 47 years, this was now going to be sink or swim time.
But he swam! he was determined to keep busy, learn new things, have meals and days out with good friends and family.
Dad was a bit of a foodie, he quite often had seconds, and would always share his opinion of the quality of the food......he sometimes had to be reined in a bit with his comments!!
Dad’s grandchildren really helped too, he embraced Abi, Grant, Connor, Hannah, Becca, Ayrton and the late Star. There are also the great grandchildren Emily, Brook, Alfie and Coby who were all so important to Alec. Some are step Grandchildren and Great Grandchildren, but Alec always treated them all equally.
Mum and Dad are reunited once more
