In Loving Tribute to Marge Smith
A wonderful, positive and kind lady who loved life, God and her family’
Mum was diagnosed with this illness back in January of this year 2021 after developing jaundice. She went into hospital where after having a stent in her bile duct and scans was diagnosed with Stage 4 inoperable pancreatic cancer. She chose not to have chemo, as the side effects seemed horrendous. So mum came home to be looked after my my father, me and eventually, a wonderful team of doctors, nurses and carers.
During the months we had, we managed for at least some of them, to go out shopping (I’m sure if you knew mum you’d know how much she loved to shop), chat, laugh and make memories. Pancreatic Cancer UK were very helpful during this time, especially in giving advice about the taking of pancreatic digestive enzymes which mum had been given but not very good advice about how to take at first. Losing her appetite was the worst thing in many ways about her illness, so this was invaluable in trying to keep her going.
But I don’t want this page to be only about mum’s experience with this awful, cruel illness. Instead, I would like it to be a celebration of the life of a brilliant person who was so devoted to her faith, family and friends. A person who could talk to anyone-and very often did-and who was deeply kind, selfless and do anything for anyone.
Mum never considered herself an important person but to us, she was the most important person in the world and I know she’d be thrilled if she knew her story would help raise money so that other people could have the life saving early diagnoses and/or treatment she sadly couldn’t have.
The way mum dealt with her illness was quietly courageous until the end. She didn’t complain and bore everything with faith and acceptance. I feel so honoured that I could help to care for her.
Nonetheless, we are devastated to lose her but know that now, she is out of suffering and in a better place. We will remember you always: a devoted and loving wife to your husband Mike and mum to your daughter Kerry. Your spirit lives on and we will love you forever.
God bless Mum-we will never forget you xxx
